The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the UBC Professorship in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The initial term of the Professorship is intended to be for a 5-year term. Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a full-time, tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Associate Professor at UBC. The awarding of this Professorship is subject to the usual University approvals.
The successful candidate will provide leadership in the acceleration of the province’s capacity to design, evaluate and trial next-generation therapeutics and will add significant capacity to bio-innovation within the BC Life Sciences ecosystem. Within an exciting translational ecosystem, relevant activities will include participation in the design and execution of clinical trials preferably including early stage clinical trials. Activities will also include leading the development of a residency program in clinical pharmacology and enhancing other initiatives to increase the training and capacity of other personnel in areas critical to maintaining and sustaining our capacity in both the evaluation of existing drugs and therapies and the ongoing sustainability of clinical trials capacity in BC. The successful candidate is expected to provide academic leadership for the new Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) at the new Providence campus and lead an integrated research and education program in clinical pharmacology at UBC.
The incumbent must hold an MD (MD/PhD is an advantage) and have training in an area of medicine with a significant clinical pharmacology component, including but not limited to clinical trials, drug design and testing, pharmacogenomics or regulatory affairs. The selected candidate is expected to demonstrate appropriate standards of excellence in research and teaching, as well as to engage meaningfully through collaborations and integrations between academia and industry. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain high-quality, productive relationship across cultural differences and work in a collaborative and inclusive manner, fostering a learning and work environment that develop professionals who will create knowledge and provide compassionate, respectful patient-centred care.
An appropriate academic Department in the UBC Faculty of Medicine will be identified at the time a successful candidate is selected contingent upon the candidate’s area of expertise. A faculty appointment at UBC will be contingent upon the approval of granting the candidate the UBC Professorship in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
The expected salary for this Professorship is $185,000 per annum.
