Assistant Professor in Kinesiology

The School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (EPHE) at the University of Victoria (UVic), in partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Physical Therapy, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Kinesiology to begin July 1, 2025 or as negotiated. The primary appointment for this research stream Faculty position will be located in EPHE (UVic) where the Faculty will operate their research program. This Faculty position will teach in and provide service to the MPT-VIC program located at the Vancouver Island Tech Park. The UBC MPT (Master of Physical Therapy) program’s key coursework relates to the education of students in preparation for practice as Physical Therapists.
The mission of EPHE is to transform and enrich the lives of individuals and diverse communities by creating, disseminating, and applying knowledge in the areas of physical activity and healthy lifestyles leading to healthier people, communities and society. A strong and collaborative research culture exists within the School. The MPT program is rigorous, scholarly and delivers a high standard of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, with the goal of providing students with a strong foundation for practice in the profession. The MPT program has a unique model of distributed teaching and learning to support the four student cohorts in Vancouver, Prince George, Surrey and Victoria. The University of Victoria, EPHE, UBC and the MPT program have a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program to advance the mission of EPHE.
We are seeking individuals with clinical experience as a Physical Therapist, as well as a clinical exercise-based research focus with an emphasis on team-based care, implementation science, and/or clinical and cultural programing in musculoskeletal, neurological or cardiorespiratory health/rehabilitation or other health related areas.
Position Requirements
• PhD in a discipline relevant to a physiotherapy-oriented research area
• Substantive relevant and recent physiotherapy clinical experience
• Licensed or eligible for licensing as a physiotherapist or equivalent
• Relevant and recent clinical post-secondary teaching experience that demonstrates high calibre in teaching including clinical teaching and a commitment to student engagement
• Strong commitment to Indigenization of academic curriculum
• Strong record of scholarly achievement relative to stage of career, which may include community-engaged scholarship
• Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
The following will be considered assets:
• Successful supervision of the research activities of undergraduate honours and graduate students
• Evidence of engagement in academic collegial governance
• Experience with practicum-based learning
• Evidence of contributions to curriculum and program development

The candidate’s qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $130,000.
