Assistant Professor in Accounting, Haskayne School of Business

The Accounting (ACCT) Area at the Haskayne School of Business (HSB), University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Accounting. Priority will be given to PhD students who are graduating this year, post docs, or assistant professors who graduated less than three years ago. The appointment start date is July 1, 2025, and is contingent on final budget approval.
Candidates must have recently completed or be nearing completion of a Ph.D. in Accounting. We seek collegial candidates with a strong research orientation. Duties include research, teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the Area, the School, the University, and the community. The salary is competitive and will depend on qualifications, experience, and research.
Candidates must have:
• high potential for excellence in research and scholarship, demonstrated by publications and/or invited revisions at top-tier accounting journals, as indicated in the FT-50 or UT Dallas lists, and other original work that may be used to evaluate potential for excellence in research and scholarship,
• strong theoretical and methodological skills and a mastery of the relevant literature,
• excellent teaching skills, demonstrated through student evaluations, a well-structured teaching portfolio, and/or a teaching presentation,
• a willingness to engage in service to the school, university, and profession,
• a strong desire to conduct impactful research.
Candidates will be evaluated based on additional criteria including:
• a strong research program in complementary areas to our current research faculty
• an ability and capacity to build a research portfolio that can attract research funding from external sources.
Faculty in the ACCT area at the Haskayne School of Business have published in top-tier journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Management Science, Review of Accounting Studies, Accounting Organizations and Society, and Contemporary Accounting Research. Faculty frequently publish in high-impact practitioner journals, such as Harvard Business Review and California Management Review.
Faculty hold editorial positions at Management Science, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, and Journal of Management Accounting Research. An Accounting area member has recently been named the incoming Editor-In-Chief of Contemporary Accounting Research. We host the Haskayne and Fox accounting conference, one of the most highly regarded conferences in North America, attracting over 100 scholars from around the world. The area research budget funds travel to prestigious international conferences. We have a vibrant PhD program, and an active seminar series, attracting presentations from top scholars every two weeks. We have an excellent record of assistant professors earning tenure and promotion.
