Working for the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology
The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology has a history of producing high-quality research on relevant topics pertaining to agricultural, resource and environmental economics. The Department includes a group of highly reputable scholars and a vibrant graduate studies program with approximately 60 graduate students. Department members are engaged in several undergraduate programs in the Faculty, including a BA in environmental studies and a BSc in environmental and conservation science. The department offers master (thesis- and course-based) and doctoral degrees in agricultural and resource economics, rural and environmental sociology, and an interdisciplinary degree in risk and community resilience. The successful candidate will contribute to these undergraduate and graduate programs and build new areas of expertise both individually and as part of collaborative teams composed of people within and outside academia.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• This position involves teaching up to 8 courses (e.g., 4 courses in the Fall term, 3 courses in the Winter term, and 1 course in the Summer term). Teaching may involve undergraduate and graduate courses.
• The successful candidate will provide leadership to our growing 12-month course-based master's program by providing support for student recruitment, mentorship and program completion. The appointee must be able to contribute to teaching the following courses:
• AREC 323 Introduction to Management for Agri-Food, Environmental, and Forestry Business
• AREC 365 Natural Resources Economics
• AREC 900 Directed Research Project
Qualifications
• PhD degree in the field of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Economics or a related discipline.
• Experience in undergraduate-level teaching and relevant teaching and student mentoring experience in a classroom setting.
• A strong understanding of university pedagogy, student-centred learning techniques and experiential learning approaches.
• The desire to build a university career focused on student education for professional careers.
• Ability to work collaboratively and engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
